Hey guys! Here’s another guest blog by a friend who’d like to remain anonymous. Let’s just call her Madame M for now
Like me, she’s a big fan of reality tv…
***********************************************************************************************************
I have a dirty little secret – I happen to watch an inordinate amount of reality television. So much that I had to cut myself off from adding any new shows to watch. I may need an intervention. Maybe there is a reality TV anonymous group out there I should be joining?
As I sit and watch these shows (all the while my brain is probably turning to mush) – I ask myself what it is about reality TV that draws me in…
So what do I watch?
Competition Reality TV – “Cooking, Designing, Racing, Surviving”
This is my favorite type of reality TV to watch. I love shows like Top Chef, Survivor, Amazing Race or Project Runway. I love seeing the creativity and I love being inspired.
Slice of Life – “Behind the Scenes”
This would be shows like Flipping Out (LOVE!!!), Rachel Zoe Project, and Million Dollar Listing – Shows that give you a glimpse of the people, their work, and their lifestyle.
Slice of Life – “I’m a glutton for punishment for watching this show” show
Shows like The Real Housewives franchise, Jersey Shore and Mob Wives. These shows are so painful to watch, it’s like rubber-necking an accident on the road, and I just can’t help myself.
It’s when I watch this type of reality TV that I ask- What draws me? Is it the fact that these people have no frontal lobes and behave badly with no sense of the consequences or ramifications of their actions? Do I enjoy watching because they seemingly can get away with that behavior? Or All of the above?
Take the women of the Real Housewives Franchise – are they even ashamed of their behavior? Do they have any self-awareness? I have never seen so many entitled, self-centered, drama queens who are oblivious to everything but themselves. As LuAnn de Lesseps sings “Money Can’t Buy You Class” and ladies that is sooo true.
However, you know what? It works – people love them (or love to hate them) and the shows. I watch the shows. I must be insane, but there is something just so entertaining about grown women making fools of themselves on national TV.
Top 3 Reasons I Watch
- Hilarious quotes –“What? Are We Animals” (Mob Wives)
- Train Wrecks =Unadulterated entertainment
- Pure fun!
